'Emotional' Pochettino is just what Tottenham need, says Kane

Kane admitted he harbours hopes of one day captaining both boyhood club Tottenham and England. They are not in a good run but Liverpool have a very good players, one of the best squads, not only in England, but in Europe. "It is important we have Hugo Lloris, the captain of France, as our skipper, because with his experience he can give better advice. The good thing is the injured players are very positive, that's important". And not say "I want to win" - to show you want it with your performance, your behaviour, your attitude. If you have character and good personality and you are a leader, it's a natural quality.

The defensive solidity is something I have written about in the past but this is the key change Pochettino has made to us. The most important thing is he is very optimistic, we are optimistic with him.

Pochettino focuses as much on character as ability when considering players for the club.

Spurs have now managed to snap up their former chief scout, whose most recent role was at Derby as joint-director of recruitment before he left when Nigel Pearson was sacked in October a year ago. "Then of course, the hierarchy is very important", Pochettino said. I see myself as a leader and we have a lot of leaders on the field. There are too many rumours, we need to be patient. This in itself is by no mean feat, especially when you consider the quality of the managers and teams before.

In that way, Pochettino makes no bones about competing with the big boys. For me, they are not a number, they are people that feel, that have emotions, and it's very, very tough when you can not give the possibility to them to play, and then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, they are training hard, hard, hard.

Liverpool head into the clash with only one win in their last 10 matches, facing accusations of burnout and a lack of leadership in the squad.

Four points separate Pochettino's men from sixth-place Manchester United and he feels others challengers can still emerge from a chasing pack that includes Liverpool in fifth.

Pochettino is refusing to put a time limit on the absence, but a scan on Monday confirmed it is likely to be weeks rather than months. Last season we ended up as the second highest scorers in the league.

Jan Vertonghen is making good progress in his recovery from ankle ligament damage but the Belgian global remains out so Eric Dier is expected to continue alongside Toby Alderweireld at the back.

"We wanted to finish strong".
